Local Area Information:

Transport:

There are two tube lines near the house. Queens Park is on the Bakerloo Line and is just a five minute walk away. Westbourne Park is on the Hammersmith and City line and is around a 10 minute walk away.

There is an extensive network of bus routes from the nearby main roads that take you all around London. Many of them are night buses.

Shopping, Food and Drink:

Portobello Road Market is about a five minute walk from the house. Golborne Road, which you come to first, is an extension of Portobello Road and also has shops, restaurants and coffee shops along it. On a Saturday this street is buzzing with stalls selling everything from designer clothes, antiques, food, jewellery and everything you could ever think of. On week days and Saturdays there are fresh fruit and vegetable stores willing to make bargains especially at the end of the day to get rid of their produce. There are great boutique shops, café’s, restaurants and pubs along Portobello Road and in all the small side roads surrounding it. On Portobello Road is the Electric Cinema, a unique and exciting place to watch films in style.

The choice of restaurants, bars and pubs is overwhelming, there is a option to suit every budget and taste, covering all local and international styles of cuisine.

The Canal is just a minute’s walk away. If you walk to the right you reach a huge Sainsbury’s Supermarket where you can do your weekly food shop. If you walk to the left you will get to little Venice and then to Regents Park, London Zoo, Lords Cricket Ground and even to Camden, where there is a huge (and slightly bizarre) market on Sundays. There are also some lovely pubs along the Canal, some with gardens on the water.

Whiteleys Shopping Centre on Queensway has great shops, restaurants, café’s and a multi screen cinema. There is a bowling alley and an ice rink at the top of Queensway as well as the entrance to Hyde Park & Kensington Gardens, two of London’s largest and beautiful parks. At the other end of Queensway you will find a swimming pool and Spa called Porchester Baths.

Entertainment and Exercise:

The Jubilee Sports Centre, on Caird Street, has a swimming pool and gym, which is a minute’s walk away and is very cheap to join. The Westway Sports Centre is a short bus journey or a 30 minute walk away. They have indoor and outdoor tennis courts and the largest indoor climbing wall in the UK. They have walls for beginners right the way up to Olympic standard. There are Squash courts, five a side football pitches, netball courts and a gym.

The Canal is a great spot to go jogging or cycling.
